69th EAAP Annual Meeting to Be Held in Dubrovnik (Croatia) in August 2018

The 69th Annual Meeting of the European Federation of Animal Science (EAAP) will be held in Dubrovnik (Croatia) in Valamar Dubrovnik Resort (Babin Kuk) from 27–31 Aug. 2018. The resort has several hotels with different categories along with a conference center. Babin Kuk is about 4 km away from old historical center and is well connected with the city by public traffic.

Dubrovnik is one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the Mediterranean, well connected with the rest of the world. Dubrovnik Airport is approximately 22 km away from the Valamar Dubrovnik Resort. Unique for its impressive medieval forts, churches, monuments, and palaces, Dubrovnik is often called the pearl of the Adriatic. More than a thousand-year-old history of Dubrovnik made it one of the cultural centers of Europe.

The Old City is encompassed by medieval walls, which have been preserved in their original form and opened for visitors as Dubrovnik’s major attraction. In 1979, the city was included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site list.

Croatia is situated in the southeastern part of Europe, surrounded by Alps to the west, Sava and Drava Rivers to the north and east, and the long coastline of the Adriatic Sea encompassing more than a thousand islands to the south. Croatian territory could be divided into three geographic and climate zones: the lowland with a continental climate in the north of the country, the Mediterranean coastal zone in the south, and the mountain region across the central part. Favorable agro-climatic conditions, land forms, and soil enable a wide range of agricultural production, from field and industrial crops, to vineyards, as well as continental and Mediterranean fruits and vegetables.

Animal production is present on the entire Croatian territory. The largest proportion of the production structure belongs to small family farms, whereas the importance of large specialized farms has been rising fast in the past few years. Animal production includes all species from cattle to fish.

We hope that all of you will have a very productive meeting from a scientific point of view and that you will enjoy the social events and our warm and friendly atmosphere.

We look forward to seeing you in August 2018.
